My research is conducted on mantle petrology/geochemistry, igneous petrogenesis and earth interior geodynamics using an integrated approach by combining geology, geochemistry and geophysics. I am particularly interested in lithospheric evolution of North China Craton; Permian mantle plumes, large igneous provinces (Emeishan and Tarim) and their economic and environmental impact on the earth system. Current research projects include Permian mantle plumes and earth system changes, lithospheric thinning and accretion underneath the North China Craton, and Opening and evolution of the South China Sea constrained by volcanic rocks.

I currently serve as an associate editor for Terra Nova, a member of the LIP Committee of IAVCEI, and a member of the Hot Spot Dynamics Committee of IODP.
