My research involves primarily in mineral physics, petrophysics and experimental petrology with special interests focusing on physical and chemical property of minerals and rocks under extreme conditions. One of my research themes is the rheological behavior of crustal and mantle materials at high pressure and high temperature using a gas medium pressure apparatus designed and built by Prof. Mervyn Paterson. We plan to work on mainly the rheological equation of state, fabric evolution and water-weakening of minerals and multi-phase rocks under controlled conditions. The aim of such a research is to provide the experimental basis for understanding and modeling the dynamical behavior and evolution of deep interiors of the Earth. Also I am interested in experimental investigation in chemical differentiation of main elements and trace elements as well as isotope fraction during phase transitions, dehydration and partial melting processes in subduction zone with the aid of large-volume pressure apparatuses and advanced geochemistry analytical techniques.
